Founded in 1904, Botafogo F.R. is one of top professional football clubs in Brazil. The club is located in Rio and it is considered to be one of the most traditional soccer clubs in the history of brazilian soccer. In 105-year existence, Botafogo has built a reputation of developing some of the best football players in Brazil. Legendary names of brazilian soccer such as Garrincha, Nilton Santos, Didi, Zagalo, Leônidas da Silva among others have been developed in or played for the club. Stadium
Botafogo play their home games at the Estádio Olímpico João Havelange. One of the most impressive stadiums in South America, the "Engenhão", as it is commonly known, opened last year with a capacity of 45,000. The club previously called a number of venues home, including the General Severiano and the Caio Martins.
