Luiz Villarinho was a full time student and soccer player at Washington College in the winter of 1999 when he decided to assist US soccer players and coaches that loved the game but did not have the knowledge neither the experience necessary to take it to the next level. Noticing the recent movement that pointed to a huge growth in the numbers of soccer players in the US and the lack of high quality training available, he decided to start doing a few clinics and camps for some local teams and clubs in the eastern shore of Maryland and Delaware. The programs were so succesfull that soon enough the demand grew higher to the point that he would need extra staff already to the summer of the next year.
In the spring of 2000 Luiz presented a project of a soccer company to Mrs. Anne Paroulek, the person that would soon become his partner. The company started out in the summer of that same year based in the state of Maryland, operating locally and initially bringing two great coaches from Brazil to teach the brazilian way of playing and coaching to the american soccer community. The program was a huge success and in the next year it it was already necessary to bring almost three times as much staff in order to keep up with the growth in the number of players and coaches that were taking advantage of the program.
In the folowing years the word of mouth spread out through the country and with initially very limited budget for marketing and advertisement, TetraBrazil programs spread quickly nationwide. Several other programs such as the Tours to Brazil, the Futsal Training as well as the coaching licenses programs were soon added as new services provided by the company. They were also a huge success in terms of numbers and quality, above all.
In the summer of 2008 TetraBrazil had already reached 10 times the initial number of staff members since the first year of operations and almost 30 times the numbers of campers. From 2 coaches and 100 players in 2000, the company had reached 20 coaches and 3000 players in 2008. "It has always been hard to keep up the quality of the program delivered with such a steep increase in numbers, however, this has always been a challenge that TetraBrazil takes as a priority. That is why the company is still recognized as a top caliber, high quality soccer camp provider", says Mr. Villarinho.
In the summer 2009 perceiving new opportunities to expand the program across the entire United States, Luiz Villarinho approached the Challenger Sports Management Group presenting a project of fusion between the two greatest soccer camp providers in the United States, Challenger Sports and TetraBrazil Soccer Academy. The partnership was a succesfull deal set in stone by september of 2009.
